What an archive note is
Where we can identify what an old campaign page was about, its address now opens an archive note: when it was posted, what was announced or reported, what independent sources say, and how things turned out. We do not reproduce the campaign's text, logos, photos or videos, and we quote no more than a phrase or a sentence from anyone, with attribution. When a figure in an old headline can be checked, we check it against primary records such as FEC filings, and say plainly when we can't.
How old addresses are handled
The site went through two designs, and their addresses differ.
- 2013-2014 (governor). Pages lived under
/sections/page/,/sections/media/,/sections/blog/and similar paths, many named with long ID codes. Where the topic is identifiable, as with the Docking announcement, the address opens a note. Addresses with only an ID code redirect here. - 2017-2018 (Congress). Posts used dated addresses such as
/2018/09/.... The most-linked ones open notes. Others redirect to the closest topic page, for example a post about the tax bill to tax reform, or to this index. The issue pages at/issues/...are now neutral position pages. - Calls to action. Old volunteer, donation, event, petition, survey and store addresses are not recreated. They redirect to about this site, which explains why.
Addresses that never belonged to the campaign, including spam pages added under the domain after it lapsed, return "not found."
A note on dates
Some 2014 addresses carry ID codes whose first characters encode the date they were created, and they date from August 2013 through October 2014. Because the date alone doesn't tell us what the page said, we don't guess. For the dated record of that race, see the elections page.
